Chihuahua

This week, I will be dedicating this blog entry to writing about the Chihuahua. Now before I begin, many people have negative views towards the Chihuahua, whether it’s their appearance, tendency to bark a lot, or something else. However, I believe that every dog deserves a chance. The Chihuahua can actually be very cute and calm when trained right.

Quick Facts:

The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog.

The Chihuahua got its name from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico.

Why the Chihuahua makes such a good pet!:

The Chihuahua is a companion dog that is very loyal to its owner(s). They have been known to stand up to dogs much bigger than them in order to protect their owners.

They are very scrappy. They aren’t afraid to bark at anything and everything. Some people would find this to be a negative to the breed, but I actually kind of like it. I find it really cool how they won’t back down, even though they are much smaller than most things. However, I will admit that I do get annoyed when they even bark at night when you’re trying to go to sleep.

The Chihuahua is NOT for everyone:

Because the Chihuahua breed scares easily, they are prone to nipping or biting if provoked. This makes them incompatible with families with small children. However, if your Chihuahua is properly trained beforehand, they can be a great addition to a growing family.

The Chihuahua is prone to several health issues and birth defects. New owners should be very careful when choosing a Chihuahua puppy to take home. Make sure the breeder is a professional and provides all the paperwork for shots and care during the puppy’s early months. The Chihuahua can also be a picky eater, so owners must make sure that they are getting enough nutrition.
